Skin Problems

Cracked skin generally occurs when the skin is dry, but can also result from scratches and infection. The skin can become itchy, rough and irritated, and cracks can develop into fissures which can extend to the deeper layers of the skin causing a wide range of serious skin and health conditions.

Itchy skin results in scratching which leads to further irritation and damage. In order to resolve this problem it is important to break the ‘itch/scratch’ cycle – this is where Gloves In a Bottle comes in.

Cracked Skin

CAUSES & SYMPTOMS

Dry and cracked skin can be caused by diet, excessively dry or cold weather, dermatitis, hormonal imbalance, allergies, chemical irritants and other skin and health disorders. If left to develop deep fissures can result in infections which if untreated can lead to further complications.

TREATMENTS

Cracked skin is usually accompanied by other dry skin symptoms, with one symptom often leading to another. For instance, dryness can lead to scaling, scaling can cause itchiness, itching can lead to scratching, scratching can cause inflammation and small tears that can develop into fissures (cracks), and these can lead to further irritation. Treating dry, injured or cracked skin promptly and diligently can help break this cycle.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis

CAUSES & SYMPTOMS

Allergic contact dermatitis is a form of dermatitis /eczema caused by an allergic reaction to a material called an allergen that comes into contact with the skin. The allergen is harmless to people that are not allergic to it.

Common causes of allergic contact dermatitis include: jewellery such as nickel or gold, latex gloves, perfumes or chemicals in cosmetics and skincare products and various plants

Irritant Contact Dermatitis

CAUSES & SYMPTOMS

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, irritant contact dermatitis is the most common type of contact dermatitis. It can occur when the skin comes in contact with toxic materials such as cleaning products, bleach, soap and detergents.

Also known as “hand eczema”, it can also appear when the skin regularly comes in contact with less irritating materials like soap or even water. Hairdressers, bartenders, and healthcare workers, often suffer with irritant contact dermatitis.

Treatment

After exposure to a known allergen or irritant wash the affected area with soap and cool water. Avoid scratching

For blistering apply a cold moist compress for 30 minutes, 3 times a day. Calamine lotion may relieve itching as well as some oral antihistamines.

For mild cases that cover a relatively small area, hydrocortisone cream in non prescription strength may be sufficient.

Use Gloves In A Bottle Shielding Lotion as a preventative measure to protect sensitive skin

If symptoms do not improve after 2–3 of days of self-care, or if the itching and pain is severe, seek medical attention

Gloves In A Bottle

What Is a Shielding Lotion?

Shielding Lotions are a new technology in skin care that outperform moisturisers and protective barrier creams. They work by restoring the protective qualities of the outer layer of skin whilst enabling it to regain its natural oil and moisture balance

Gloves In A Bottle is a Shielding Lotion that works with the skin to form a protective hydrating shield that will not wash or rub off for up to 4 hours.
